A New Approach to Construction Services

Design Build for Timeline Control and Improved Accountability

In the traditional design-bid-build delivery model, an architect creates a design package and bids it out to independent contractors for the building phase. The added steps of creating, requesting and processing bids required for this process can add months to project schedules, while the required coordination of project teams can lead to difficulties with accountability as well as hamper collaborative work. This translates to added cost and time while potentially reducing quality and increasing the opportunity for errors.

Wiese Hefty provides fully integrated design and construction. Our construction project manager, who understands the feasibility and expenses of design components, is involved from the initial design phase, and the architect is involved throughout the construction phase. With a single responsible party and point of contact, we improve timeline control, efficiency and overall accountability.

"The construction process involves so many different people – from structural engineers to architects to project managers – and a lot of times this leads to a lot of finger pointing if anything goes wrong on a project. Wiese Hefty provides a one-stop-shop option, and have really keyed in on a we'll-do-it-all' model that helps avoid these common issues with traditional construction projects."

Architect-Led Process for High-Quality, Consistent Design

Wiese Hefty designs buildings inspired by the beauty of natural materials and the craftsmanship of time-tested regional building traditions. Because an architect leads the project, the design solution and its integrity remain the central focus of the process. In contrast, contractor-led projects relegate the architect’s role to the backseat, often at the expense of the project’s quality and responsiveness. Wiese Hefty Design Build provides the design and planning insight to respond to the client’s needs and vision to make the project beautiful as well as efficient and appropriate.

"Kristin is a very good listener. She didn't come in with an agenda for what she wanted. Instead, she interpreted what I wanted and helped guide the process to get there. We really got into the details – all the way down to what the legs on the desks are going to look like."

Internal Controls Structure for Smooth, Safe and Reliable Project Management

Wiese Hefty strictly adheres to our documented internal controls structure for the life of each project. This ensures that we fully capture our clients' needs from the early stages of the project to completion and that we keep to projected timelines. To minimize unexpected problems or challenges we have developed measures that include:

  • an in-depth client needs analysis
  • detailed project schedules
  • a comprehensive operations manual
  • binding subcontractor agreements
  • a documented safety program

In some cases, we have even installed surveillance cameras at job sites to further ease the concerns of our customers.

"Clay talked about the internal controls a lot in the beginning - and he really delivered! Wiese-Hefty communicated with us through every step of the process, really keeping us informed and allowing us the opportunity to give input in a way that no other firm ever has. Their thorough approach and follow-up left us assured that every detail had been addressed, making them true partners of ours in this endeavor!"
